Everything about Mohammed Ben Brahim totally explained

El Houari Mohammed Ben Brahim Assarraj was a poet from Morocco. He is especially well-known as the poet of Marrakech of the first part of the 20th century. He was born in 1918 and died in 2005. He wrote poems for both king Mohammed V and for his opponent El Glaoui. According to his biographer Omar Mounir he was "considered a nationalist by the French, a traitor by the nationalists, an ulema by the man in the street and a rascal by the ulemas." Mohamed Ben Brahim studied at the Ibn Yousouf University in Marrakech and the Al-Qarawiyyin University of Fes. He worked as a university professor for a short period and, after that as a journalist.
   Many of his poems are put to music and still popular in present day Morocco. Karima Skalli is one of its interpreters.
   An example of his poetry about المطعـــم البـلــدي in Tanger:
إن كان في كــل أرض ما تشان بــه…فإن طنجة فيهــا المطعـــم البـلــدي أخــلاق أبنائهــا كالمســــك في أرج …بعكس أخلاق رب المطعــم البـلــدي يأتيك بالأكـــل والـــذبـــاب يتبعـــه … وكالضبــاب ذباب المطـعم البلــدي ما بالبـــراغيث إن تثاءبت عجــب … لما ترى حجمهــا بالمطعــم البلـــدي تلقاك راقصــةً بالـــبــاب قائلــــةً … يـا مرحبا بضيوف المطعـــم البلـدي والبَقُّ كالفول حجما إن جَهِلــتَ به … فعشُّــه في سريـر المـطعــم البلــدي تبيت روحــك بالأحـــلام في رعـب … إن نمت فوق فراش المطعم البلــدي أما الطبيب فعجــل بالذهــاب لــه …إذا أكلــت طعــام المطــعـــم البلــدي يا من مُناه المكان الرحب في سفــر … كالقبر في الضيق بيت المطعم البلـدي المرء في قلقٍ والطرف فــي أرقٍ … والقلب في حنقٍ بالمطعــم البلـدي … يا مــن غدا ينتوي لطنجــة سفــراً … إيّاك إيّاك قرب المطعم البلـــدي !ينسى الفتى كل مقـدور يمــر بـــه … إلا مبيــت الفتى بالمطعـم البلــدي
